As a curly haired girl, you’ve got endless reasons to be thankful for your hair. Why not when Mother Nature has freely gifted you a type of hair that many women only yearn for from a distance? Curls are so sexy and they greatly add to a woman’s allure. How do I take care of my curls? This is a question that many women with curls often grapple with. Well, here are a few tips to help you keep your curls looking gorgeous and luscious.
1. Preserve the natural oils. The best way to ever take care of your curly hair is to ensure its natural oils aren’t lost. Natural oil helps keep hair looking healthy and lustrous. While washing you hair, it’s advisable that you use more of conditioner than shampoo. Use only a little shampoo then continue to further wash your hair with a significant amount of conditioner. Shampoo contains harsh products that can strip your hair of its natural oils. Conditioner on the other hand has ingredients which keep your hair well moisturized and glowing. Apart from toning down on shampoo, you can also keep your hair’s natural oils by washing it less. Skip a day or two of washing unless you’ve really got to do it.
2. Steer clear of alcohol products. Alcohol is often used as an ingredient in many beauty and cosmetic products. However as much as it’s essential in all these products, it tends to have a drying impact especially on hair. As a curly haired woman, the last thing you would want is to have you hair looking dry and brittle. Because of this, you haven’t got any option but to just keep off products with alcohol. Look for labels such as acetone, ethanol etcetera. If you see these, run.
3. Do not brush. You got it, avoid brushing your curls. Yes, curls and a hair brush just don’t go hand in hand. Running a brush over your curls will only leave them looking frizzy and poorly kept. In place of brushing, use a wide toothed comb to comb your hair after a wash. It not only helps with the detangling but also helps keep the natural shape of your curls. Furthermore, combing your hair will also help spread the conditioner throughout your hair. Your hair really needs the conditioner.
4. Don’t touch your hair. Make it a tendency to avoid touching your hair unnecessarily. We all have that inexplainable urge to touch our hair as it dries off. This however should be avoided in the case of curly hair. Touching wet curls often creates frizz. Leave your hair to dry on its own after you’ve washed and combed it.
5. Straight less. It’s advisable that you limit the use of a straightener on your curly hair. This will help preserve the volume and bounce of your curls. Lastly, don’t forget just how stunning your curly hair is. Do your best to keep it so.
