When it comes to painting your nails, it is important to understand the proper way to use nail polish. The correct way is to always ensure you protect your nails when applying the nail polish. Here are some easy steps to follow next time you want to paint your nails like a pro.
1. Get rid of the old nail polish
Before you embark on painting your nails with a new fancy color you must remove the old one first. Use a non-acetone remover for removing old nail polish as it is less harsh and harmful to nails.
2. Cleanse your hands with soap and water
After using the nail polish remover, your hands should be washed with soap and water to get rid of the foul smell and excess remover left on your hands.
3. Apply cuticle oil
Cuticle oil can be easily obtained from most genuine cosmetic shops and is usually contained in a small tub. Use your index finger to scoop and spread the oil in a circular motion on the nails as you massage it in. Afterward, allow the oil about 20 minutes to absorb and set into the nails before proceeding to paint them.
4. Use a base coat
Swipe a single layer of base coat over each nail and wait for about 5 minutes for it to dry. A base coat serves as a shielding layer for your nails and prevents staining, which is common with pigmented colors like red, yellow, orange, and black.
5. Apply 2 layers of nail polish
Take your preferred nail polish color and start by applying the first coat on top of the base coat. Give it 10 minutes to dry before applying a second layer and wait again for 15 minutes for it to dry.
6. Varnish with a top coat
After your nails have dried up completely, finish painting your nails by swiping a single coat or two of your top coat on each nail. This is a useful step since it helps prevent chipping.
